Meet the Team:

Alvin Hall

Alvin Hall

Alvin Hall is an award-winning television and radio broadcaster, bestselling author, and renowned financial educator. His radio programs include The Green Book (BBC Radio 4), Alvin Hall Goes Back to School (The Takeaway, PRI with WNYC; New York Association of Black Journalists Award for Best Radio General Feature, shortlisted for the Association of International Broadcasting Award for Radio Current Affairs); Who Sold the Soul? (BBC Radio 4; Radio Academy Award for Best Music Feature or Documentary) and Jay-Z: From Brooklyn to the Board Room (BBC Radio 4; Wincott Foundation Press and Broadcasting Award for Best Radio Program).

His television work includes the landmark BBC2 television series Your Money or Your Life (winner of the Personal Finance Program of the Year) and Alvin’s Guide to Good Business which featured the work of eight social entrepreneurs in Africa, Asia, and the US. Among the books Hall has written are Getting Started in Stocks, Getting Started in Mutual Funds, and Your Money or Your Life (WHSmith People’s Choice Award winner; NAACP Image Award nomination). His children’s book, Show Me the Money, has been published in twenty foreign language editions.

He continues to write for various publications in the U.K. and U.S. and is completing a memoir of his childhood in the Florida Panhandle. He currently serves on the Bowdoin College Museum of Art Advisory Council, The Studio Museum in Harlem’s Acquisition Committee, the board of The Conversation US, and is Co-Chair for MoMA’s Friends of Education.

Janee Woods Weber

Janée Woods Weber

Janée Woods Weber is an activist, advocate, and trainer for social justice issues. Over the last decade, she has trained hundreds of people in antiracism and allyship in numerous states across the country and has worked with grassroots coalitions in several cities to develop opportunities for dialogue that lead to community-driven solutions to address challenges like discrimination, food insecurity, health disparities, poverty, and police-community relations. She is often sought as a moderator or commentator for discussion panels, conferences, and the media. Her writing has appeared in several publications, including The Root, Quartz, and Guernica

Janée currently serves as the President of Politica CT and as Co-Chair for the Connecticut Working Families Party. She is active with Moral Monday CT and is a founding member of CT Black Women. She serves on the board of directors for the Greater Hartford Arts Council and also for Training for Change.
